Creating an Account

Create a Xermius account to unlock cloud sync, subscription features, and access the web dashboard.

Why Create an Account?

Registration Methods

Method 1: From Desktop App

  1. Open Xermius desktop application
  2. Click "Account" in settings/sidebar
  3. Click "Create Account" button
  4. Fill in registration form
  5. Verify email
  6. Start using!

Method 2: From Website

  1. Visit https://xermius.com/register
  2. Fill in registration form
  3. Verify email
  4. Download desktop app
  5. Sign in

Field Requirements

Full Name

  • Required: Yes
  • Format: First and last name
  • Length: 2-100 characters
  • Example: John Doe

Email Address

  • Required: Yes
  • Format: Valid email format
  • Must be unique: Cannot use existing email
  • Verification: Email verification required
  • Example: john.doe@example.com

Password

  • Required: Yes
  • Minimum length: 8 characters
  • Recommended: 12+ characters
  • Must include:
    • At least one uppercase letter
    • At least one lowercase letter
    • At least one number
    • At least one special character (!, @, #, $, etc.)

Strong Password Example:

MySecure#Pass2024

Weak Passwords (Avoid):

❌ password123
❌ 12345678
❌ qwerty
❌ myname

Email Verification

After registration:

Step 1: Check Your Email

Look for email from:

From: Xermius <noreply@xermius.com>
Subject: Verify Your Email Address

Not received?

  • Check spam/junk folder
  • Wait a few minutes
  • Request new verification email
  1. Open the email
  2. Click "Verify Email Address" button
  3. Redirected to verification page
  4. Success message appears

Step 3: Sign In

  1. Return to Xermius app or website
  2. Sign in with your credentials
  3. Account is now active!

First Login

After email verification and first sign in:

1. Enable Two-Factor Authentication

Add extra security layer:

  1. Go to SecurityTwo-Factor Auth
  2. Scan QR code with authenticator app
  3. Enter verification code
  4. Save recovery codes

2. Add Your First Device

Your current device is automatically added:

3. Sync Hosts

Enable sync to backup hosts:

  1. Desktop app → Settings → Sync
  2. Enable "Cloud Sync"
  3. Hosts automatically upload
  4. Access from any device

4. Choose Plan (Optional)

Start with Freemium or upgrade to Pro:

  • View available plans
  • Compare features
  • Subscribe if needed

Account Security

Secure Your Account

After registration, take these steps:

1. Use Strong Password

  • 12+ characters
  • Mix of upper/lowercase, numbers, symbols
  • Unique (don't reuse from other sites)
  • Use password manager

2. Enable 2FA

Why?

  • Prevents unauthorized access even if password is stolen
  • Required for some subscription features
  • Industry best practice

How?

  1. Security → Two-Factor Auth
  2. Scan QR with app (Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.)
  3. Verify and save recovery codes

3. Review Devices

Regularly check logged-in devices:

  1. Go to Devices
  2. Review list
  3. Revoke unknown devices
  4. Rename devices for easy identification

4. Monitor Activity

Check activity logs for suspicious behavior:

  1. Go to SecurityActivity Logs
  2. Look for:
    • Unknown IP addresses
    • Unusual login times
    • Unexpected changes
  3. Report suspicious activity

Password Best Practices

✓ Do This:

  • Use unique password for Xermius
  • Use password manager (1Password, LastPass, Bitwarden)
  • Change password if compromised
  • Use long passphrases: correct-horse-battery-staple

✗ Don't Do This:

  • Reuse passwords from other sites
  • Share password with others
  • Write password on paper/sticky notes
  • Use personal information (birthdate, name)

Managing Your Profile

Update Profile Information

  1. Sign in to web dashboard
  2. Go to Profile settings
  3. Update information:
    • Full name
    • Email address (requires verification)
    • Profile picture
    • Timezone
    • Language preference

Change Email

  1. Profile → Email Address
  2. Enter new email
  3. Click "Update Email"
  4. Verify both old and new email
  5. Email updated after verification

Note: Must verify new email before it becomes active

Upload Profile Picture

  1. Profile → Profile Picture
  2. Click "Upload Photo"
  3. Choose image file
  4. Crop if needed
  5. Save

Requirements:

  • Format: JPG, PNG, GIF
  • Max size: 5 MB
  • Recommended: 400x400 pixels

Set Timezone

Important for:

  • Activity log timestamps
  • Subscription renewal times
  • Support ticket responses

  3. Automatically saves

Common Issues

Email Not Received

Solutions:

  1. Check Spam Folder

  2. Wait a Few Minutes

    • Email can take 5-10 minutes
    • Check again later
  3. Resend Verification

    • Click "Resend Email" button
    • Check inbox again
  4. Check Email Address

    • Verify spelling is correct
    • Try different email provider

Account Already Exists

Error: "Email already registered"

Solutions:

  1. Try Sign In

    • You may have registered before
    • Use password reset if forgotten
  2. Different Email

    • Use another email address
    • Or contact support to recover account

Password Too Weak

Error: "Password does not meet requirements"

Solution:

  • Add uppercase letters
  • Add numbers
  • Add special characters
  • Make it longer (12+ chars)

Example Strong Password:

MyXermius#Account2024!

Terms & Conditions Not Accepted

Error: "Must accept terms"

Solution:

  • Read Terms of Service
  • Read Privacy Policy
  • Check both boxes
  • Then submit
