Installation

Xermius is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Choose your platform below to get started.

System Requirements

Before installing, make sure your system meets the minimum requirements:

Windows

  • OS: Windows 10 or later (64-bit)
  • RAM: 4 GB minimum, 8 GB recommended
  • Disk Space: 500 MB free space
  • Network: Internet connection for sync features

macOS

  • OS: macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or later
  • Processor: Intel or Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3)
  • RAM: 4 GB minimum, 8 GB recommended
  • Disk Space: 500 MB free space

Linux

  • OS: Ubuntu 18.04+, Debian 10+, Fedora 32+, or equivalent
  • Architecture: x64 (64-bit)
  • RAM: 4 GB minimum, 8 GB recommended
  • Disk Space: 500 MB free space
  • Dependencies: GTK 3, libnotify

Download Xermius

Visit the official Xermius website to download the installer for your operating system:

The website will automatically detect your operating system and provide the appropriate installer. Once downloaded, follow the installation instructions below for your platform.

Installation Instructions

Windows Installation

  1. Download the installer (Xermius-Setup-x.x.x.exe) from the website

  2. Run the installer by double-clicking the downloaded file

  3. Follow the setup wizard:

    • Accept the license agreement
    • Choose installation location (recommended: default)
    • Click Install and wait for completion
  4. Launch Xermius from the desktop shortcut or Start Menu

Note: Windows may show a security warning on first install. Click "More info" → "Run anyway" to proceed.

macOS Installation

  1. Download the DMG file (Xermius-x.x.x.dmg) from the website

  2. Open the DMG by double-clicking the downloaded file

  3. Drag Xermius to the Applications folder

  4. Launch Xermius from Applications folder or Spotlight

Note: On first launch, macOS may show a security warning. Go to System SettingsPrivacy & Security and click "Open Anyway", or right-click the app and select "Open".

Linux Installation

The website will provide the appropriate package format for your distribution:

Debian/Ubuntu (DEB Package)

  1. Download the .deb file from the website
  2. Install by double-clicking the file, or use terminal:
sudo dpkg -i xermius_x.x.x_amd64.deb

Fedora/RHEL/CentOS (RPM Package)

  1. Download the .rpm file from the website
  2. Install by double-clicking the file, or use terminal:
sudo rpm -i xermius-x.x.x.x86_64.rpm

Universal (AppImage)

  1. Download the .AppImage file from the website
  2. Make it executable:
chmod +x Xermius-x.x.x.AppImage
  1. Run the AppImage:
./Xermius-x.x.x.AppImage

First Launch

When you launch Xermius for the first time:

  1. Welcome screen appears

  2. Choose setup mode:

    • 🆕 Start from scratch - Create a new account
    • 📥 Import existing - Import from PuTTY, MobaXterm, etc.
    • 🔄 Sign in - Sync with existing Xermius account
  3. Grant permissions (if prompted):

    • Network access for SSH connections
    • File system access for SFTP and imports
    • Keychain access for secure credential storage

Updating Xermius

Xermius will automatically notify you when a new version is available.

To update:

  1. Click the Update notification when it appears
  2. Choose Download and Install
  3. Restart Xermius to complete the update

You can also check manually by going to HelpCheck for Updates.

Uninstallation

Windows

  1. Go to SettingsAppsInstalled apps
  2. Find Xermius and click Uninstall

macOS

  1. Open Applications folder
  2. Drag Xermius to Trash
  3. Empty Trash

Linux

  • DEB: sudo apt-get remove xermius
  • RPM: sudo rpm -e xermius
  • AppImage: Simply delete the file

Troubleshooting

Windows

"Windows protected your PC" warning

  • Click "More info""Run anyway"

macOS

"Cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer"

  • Go to System SettingsPrivacy & Security
  • Click "Open Anyway"

Linux

AppImage doesn't run

  • Make sure it's executable: chmod +x Xermius-x.x.x.AppImage
  • Install FUSE if needed: sudo apt-get install fuse libfuse2

Missing dependencies (Debian/Ubuntu)

sudo apt-get install libgtk-3-0 libnotify4
